Year 8 – Olympic Enterprise Module

Pupils in year 8 baked international food for profit as part of their Olympic Enterprise Module.

Year 8 pupils worked in pairs and small groups to plan and make foods suitable to sell to the rest of the school.  They chose recipes from around the world to represent the many countries which are taking part in this year’s Olympics in London.
Mattie and Lucy made beef from the U.S.A.
Bijan and Sam made tortillas from Mexico
Nikkita and Oliver made Lamington cakes from Australia
Oliver and Oliver made tomato and basil spirals from Italy
The profit made will benefit various charities of the pupils’ choice.
After half term, there will be another food sale by the remaining pupils in year 8.
The module is a joint venture between Mr Hughes head of   I.C.T. and Mrs Mackey head of the Home Economics department.  Mrs Mackey said, “the pupils are so enthusiastic and are really enjoying this new experience, which is so rewarding to teach.”
This is the first year of teaching this new module and due to its success it is planned to repeat it each year for year 8 pupils at St. Wilfrid’s School.
