St Wilfrid’s travelled to St James for the very first meeting between the two schools. St Wilfrid’s arrived full of confidence after lots of rugby training and matches being played this year.
After a bright start, which included several excellent breaks from winger Matt Semmens, St Wilfrid’s allowed their bigger opponents far too much time on the ball. As a consequence St Wilfrid’s conceded several soft tries where the tackling was suspect.
The boys did manage to put together some good phases of play, with Charlie Roddis and Joe Knight working hard to secure possession and provide continuity in attack.
Tackling is the key area and overcoming the fear of tackling a larger opponent. With more practice and game time I am sure this will improve.
